They are utilized in the photographic, building trades, ergonomics, video imaging and lighting industries as well as home
photographers and architects.
Analog units are the older variety but do not require a power source. They operate from a photoelectric cell whose output
increases with increase in light intensity. Costs are around $75 with accuracies of approximately +/- 15% of the range value.
The electronic units are accurate to +/- 5% or better and utilize photodiode technology. Some have correction for color
build in to them. Their costs range from $200 to $400 depending on features such as accuracy, communications capabilities, analog outputs and maximum intensity capabilities.
